Charlie’s Wedding, May 1975

Somehow, I was invited with good friend Michael Proudfoot to Charlie’s wedding in early May 1975. The reception was at the Moncks Arms, Caenby Corner, near the village of Glentworth. I’d got to know Charlie’s farm labourer father, known to all as Smiler. He frequently stopped outside our house for a chat on his way home. I remember becoming obsessed with the wall clock and the wallpaper in the lounge bar of the pub. Sadly I can’t remember Charlie’s wife’s name. The reception continued long into the night after Michael and I had walked across the fields back home. The occasion and the photographs have always resonated.
